ESPN NFL Draft 2022
I had the incredible opportunity to work with the ESPN broadcast team and Spillt on a narrative-driven intro for the 2022 NFL Draft coverage, which took place in Las Vegas, Nevada. The ESPN team scouted significant locations within the Vegas area and settled on a modern-art sculpture outside of the Las Vegas performing arts center.
Initially, the plan was to film dancers in front of the sculpture and composite some graphics behind them. However, mother nature had other plans, sending a massive dust storm into the area. We quickly adapted and pivoted to a full green-screen VFX shoot instead.
We recreated the sculpture and immediate foreground in 3d, then brought it to life using a rig built to create lights that interacted across the sculpture based on the various instruments within the Stevie Wonder soundtrack. In total, we created twenty shots, which were then edited together to create the final product.
The result was a stunning intro that garnered rave reviews across the sports world. As a huge NFL fan, it was an honor to be a part of the first step of every NFL dream and to have contributed to such an exciting event.
